My Journey To Date
September 12, 2012
Wanted to talk to you for some while about the things that I am doing while I am in prison to further my goals of changing the world by being positive force in ending the crime of the sexual abuse of children. My thought in telling you this is so that you know that I’m serious, if you can’t tell from my work here in on this site. I have been working toward my goal for the last 8 or 9 years.
Back in 2003, I had my own awakening. My realization that I was pretty well messed up. At that point I started reaching out to organizations that offered help and insight. I also started writing articles for these organization (S.A.T.A., ATSA, Safer Society, and several others). These articles were mostly geared toward people accepting responsibility as the first step in rehabilitation. Also wrote a few about the need for programming. I started studying about this crime, from all aspects: Victim, Offender, and Society. My audience was fairly limited as I didn’t have the resources to reach out any further.
In 2008, I began to receive a small amount of funds each month. With these funds, I began to obtain more information and then to reach out further. I became an active member in a few of the organizations whose goal was to educate people and stop this crime; I began to donate money to organizations that help victims and educate others, and I do this each year. (Approx.. $600-800 yearly); I started this site so that I could put information out that I felt needed to get out so that we could begin to stop this crime. I continued to do these things as my funds allow.
Book project
I am currently working on a book project (not telling what it is right now) that would be used to provide funds to victim organizations. This project is one that I have been working on for almost 2 years and am pretty close to bringing it out. The entirely of the work is being put together by inmates. From the final copy to the binding. The only things that will be outsourced is the printing and the distribution. Once it is print, I will use this blog to keep people aware of sales and the allocation of funds. Not because I have to, but because I want y’all to see how this is working.
"Legislation Outreach"
Another project that I am working on is one I call, "Legislation Outreach". In this, I write to legislatures and give them ideas for new laws on how we can prevent this crime. So far, I have done this for the last few years.
Survey project
A future project that I am working on is a survey project. I want to write out a survey and mail it to about 1000 people in all 50 states. The project will be in 2 parts. A before questionnaire, and then for those who answer, an informative paper, with a second questionnaire. Basically what I want to do is get people to think about what is the best way to stop this crime. It will use statistical data from studies and ask people about their opinions on stopping this crime.
YouTube project
Another project that I am trying to get off the ground is my YouTube project. It is difficult at this point. What it is, is I have written several very short (1 minute – 3 minute) micro – plays about this crime and subject. These are things that I think would help. My idea was to get a school or even pay a production company to produce them. But I have not found anyone interested in making these. So I continue my search and hope that I can find someone interested in making these. If someone out there is interested in looking at what I have, let me know, and I’ll send a copy.
Personal growth
As far as my own personal growth, I work hard at my prison work assignment. Even though I do not get paid, I do my best to be a good worker. It is difficult sometimes because I have some memory loss issues, but I have a good boss and he is willing to work with me. Even though we do not get paid to work, I feel a good work ethic, within one’s capabilities, is important in any rehabilitation goals.
I also attend college classes when I am able. Over the last 10 years, I have attained 62 college credits and have maintained a 3.96 GPA. Some might scoff at this from in here, but I can tell you all but one or two of my instructors have had PhD’s in their field and at least 20 years teaching experience. In other words, it was not easy. I like to learn. Did not understand that until I came here. Am in Anatomy, Spanish, and Art Appreciation this semester. Please wish me luck.
I also continue to study this crime. I read all that can. I just finished a couple of articles and a data study on sexual crimes against children. I receive studies from the BJS as they are put out. I write to organizations and ask for information. I write to victim organizations and ask for information or if I can help in some way. I will never stop learning about this crime and my part in it. It is the only way to affect a proper rehabilitation.
The hardest part of all of this is reaching out. In the last 2 years, I have had 6000+ people see this site, I would like to see that sky-rocket. But I am not sure how to make that happen. I guess I could take out advertisements in certain periodicals. But that takes money that I don’t have. And really it is about getting people the information that I think is important. The information that could help prevent something bad from happening. That is the ultimate reason for all that I do.
All right that has got to be enough for now. I appreciate your taking the tome to read this. And if any of you are want to know more about anything or would be interested in helping me in one of my projects let me know. It is hard to do things form in here. It can be done, just takes an inordinate amount of time.
